Humana Honors Benson with Top Wellness Award

ATLANTA, GA (June 11, 2019)- Benson Integrated Marketing Solutions, the multifamily industry’s first and largest Centralized Marketing Platform (CMP), has been honored with a Total Health Thriving Together Award by Humana for achieving one of the best wellness engagement rates in the country.   

The award from Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM), one of the country’s leading health and well-being companies, is a national honor recognizing organizations, like Benson, for engaging their employee workforce in a culture of health and well-being. Launched in 2015, Humana has presented over 100 Thriving Together awards to 77 unique companies and organizations across the nation.

Benson had more than 90% of its 175 employees and their family dependents participating in Go365®, a wellness and rewards program that helps individuals focus on personal health and well-being. Benson partnered with Humana in 2016 to integrate health and wellness into its culture and improve employee well-being.  In the first year, Benson employees reduced medical insurance premiums by 7% due to employee participation.  In year two, Benson’s leadership ramped up wellness activities and increased employee participation to over 86% which enabled a 9% premium discount for the organization. In year three, employee engagement allowed rates to stay flat, producing three consecutive years with reduced or flat premiums. Humana has found that companies that combine Total Health and the Go365 program with a standard medical plan experienced 5.5 times higher engagement of employees.

Management at Benson appointed an HR leader to coordinate onsite events like biometric screenings, flu shot clinics and one-on-one support opportunities for employees. The Benson team also created weekend events to engage employee family members. Employees were enrolled in a smoking cessation program and have lost weight due to the creation of an onsite gym. The gym offers classes and trainers and the site features a beacon for members that awards points and prompts them to check-in on their smartphone when they arrive.

Through a three-year claims and productivity study, Humana found that Go365 members with Silver Status and above had health claims costs that were 10.1% lower than those of unengaged members by Year 3.  For the members below Silver Status, their health care costs gradually rose by 17% from Year 1 to Year 3.

Humana’s Total Health has saved employers more than $21 million through premium discounts since 2013. Over 67% of Total Health groups receive a premium discount in their first renewal year, which increases to more than 74% of groups upon their second renewal in the program.
